Any news on the Lynx SAR yet Roy.. Price availability etc.....
It's time I treated myself to a new lamp and waiting with baited breath.

I am building one now as all seems to be OK with mine. Will be supplying an extension lead so the flat battery can be carried in a pocket or mounted on a belt as an alternative to helmet mount. With the new high capacity, high discharge cells, batteries will get smaller.

The battery is heavy for helmet mounting but I soon got used to mine on a high quality Ecrin Roc. Would not recommend any of the big bat cookers on anything like an Elios.

I expect the price to be about the same as the X6000.

Drop me a personal email with your name etc and I will put you on the system for it.
Nothing new about lamps being sold even before they are assembled.

Off reply, but I am looking at a new low end lamp based on soft switching off a single button, I will see how it works out when I get one together.
Lightweight Lynx body, 2 Series LEDS at 3 modes. Battery meter part of single PCB. 6 components only and 10 minutes labour time to change anything. Cost under Β£100

If I do go ahead on this I wont announce until I have at least 6 in stock!

Ah well
Although not yet in production I thought I would spin it on aditnow first, see if anyone wants to comment.

The Lynx X_Basic is a complete break from previous designs in that I am aiming for the lower end of the market as a challenge to the home made/headtorch/Chinese bike lamp sector.

The lamp has only 6 basic components any of which can be changed in about 10 minutes. 2 LEDs, 2 Reflectors, a switch, and a PCB. Emitters are two Cree XM-L2 U2s.

πŸ”—105616[linkphoto]105616[/linkphoto][/link]

Unlike the others this one is soft switching and connecting a battery causes the battery level indicator to light up, it also acts as a pilot lamp. Green, amber, red, flashing red, down the scale, however it will continue to burn up to 24 hours on a diminishing rate.

The green light on its own as a pilot looks quite sexy, and just the job for chatting in company. Bound to draw comment.

πŸ”—105618[linkphoto]105618[/linkphoto][/link]

The button is an IP 67 waterproof push button which cycles through 3 modes.

πŸ”—105617[linkphoto]105617[/linkphoto][/link]

Standard outputs 170 mA to produce about 170 lumens at 25C, there is a middle mode, then full power at 1.7 amps to produce 1400 lumens. A long hard (On) press gives a flashy mode for those who like them, cannot be switched on accidentally for those who like me hate them.

I have deliberately kept the max output down so that the lamp will be sustainable on a 2 cell power pack, this keeps down weight and cost. The lamp weighs 170 grams which is about Scurrion territory.

The price when its eventually offered for sale will be Β£95, same high performance power pack as the others. As it’s a low cost unit I will be happy to post by First Class signed for so it will be Β£100 all in with postage.

Onto other matters, I have upgraded the X2000 to 2200 lumens at 25C, and also the floodlights are upgraded to XM-L2 U2s from XPGS, at same output.

I am looking also at discontinuing some of the slower sellers.

Dragon D1800s continue to outsell all the others, out of 5 lamps sold this week 3 were D1800s.

Tested the X_Basic in Cwmystwyth over the weekend.

Main concern was the essential peripheral light, seeing ones feet I consider essential for safety reasons, no problem.

The old Trigon was very good for this, so I have used the same reflectors, right up against the glass as in the Trigon.

The lamp actually runs three separate programs as well.

Quick touch is program #1 On, walk mode, middle, and max.
Longer touch is program #2, the flashes for those who like them.
Very long 10 second press is program #3, 10 different brightness modes starting with a low mode a lot less bright that the standard walk mode and progressing upward to maximum.

So something for everyone, which is what I wanted to achieve.

I have had a small number of instances of cables failing internally due to metal fatigue of the copper internal wires.

It is important to avoid an angle of cable to gland on either lamp or power pack of less than 90 degrees and cable under tension.

Doesn't the green pilot make your cheese butties look strange? ;)

How you fixed to do me a lamp before the end of this month Roy?
Got a trip coming up and the Workstar is a little bit tired. Cells are still good though. πŸ™‚

Hi people

I am sorry to advise that I am unable to take any further advance orders until further notice.
All existing orders will be met as will any warranty returns plus the usual standard of after sales support will continue.

I have to emphasise that this is only a 'hobby' not a full time business and that I have a rather diverse lifestyle which I want to enjoy while I am able in my active retirement years.

I would like to thank everyone for their support over over the years.

This is not the end of Fellows lamps, just a temporary handbrake so to speak.

Some models are available from stock, main issue relates to Dragons and X2000s

Thank you for your kind remarks, but X_Basic will continue to be available from stock as they are low labour intensive to produce, so people will still be able to get a good lamp without the need to take out a mortgage.

Hi Peeps

Latest is that the backlog is slowly being cleared, people who already have advance orders in will be contacted about payment shortly, and things should be back to normal by next month.

I was just starting to feel under some pressure and needed to slow things down a bit.

Here is some important information so please draw attention by emailing links etc as I wish this to get to all my customers.

1/ Condensation inside the glass.
This has been a perpetual nuisance with the Lynx designs with me suffering as much as others. Unfortunately I accepted it as air contains moisture and condensation is inevitable. Dragons do not appear to suffer from this, possibly because a lot less air space inside.

It occurred that if the moisture could be removed somehow this would cure the problem, however putting silicone gel inside the lamp would not work as the heat developed would simply drive it out. I had some discussion about this with friends up at Nenthead and came up with a simple solution, a 'dry bag'.

This is a DIY cure for condensation inside one of my Lynx lamps, or any other for that matter.

My Lynx lamp has a bezel that unscrews, this allows the removal of the glass with its fitted silicone gasket. The bag shown is one that a shirt was in, no comments about the origin please, it refers to the shirt that was inside it not the lamp!
Inside the bag is silica gel purchased from Homebase as a refill for a dehumidifier and some kitchen towel to keep the lamp clear of the gel flakes.

The bag must have its ends folded to prevent air getting in, and the lamp reassembled from the outside without opening the bag, final tightening can be done after its removed from the bad.
Please note that the flat side of the gasket must be against the lamp, convex side towards the bezel.

πŸ”—108839[linkphoto]108839[/linkphoto][/link]

I have just 'treated' my own SAR in this way and then fired it up immediately to full power, no condensation at all!

This is marvellous as its been a great nuisance.

I will probably build a better tool in the form of a plastic box with airtight lid and two rubber gauntlets sealed into holes in the sides.

2/ Cable failures
I have had a number of returns due to internal breakage of the copper wire at the cable gland, this had mainly been with power packs for some reason, not lamps. I have identified the cause as being my over tightening of the gland nut and all returns have been prior to a modified assembly procedure.

3/ Current situation re supply of lamps.

I have been away for 9 days which obviously has not helped but hope to have things back to normal by early November. In meantime I have no stock at all bar one single X1000, and have some house/car/ personal matters to attend to but will do my best to get back to normal as soon as I reasonably can.
