Just picked this up from UKcaving, there's been a rescue from Old Millclose mine: http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/news/Drama-trapped-caver-rescued/article-986939-detail/article.html

I'll bet that was awkward, given how convoluted and mazelike the OMC workings are! Still, the injury was relatively minor and the DCRO got her out with a minimum of fuss so hopefully there's not going to be any "block all mineshafts!" hysteria. Mind you, given that Derbyshire County Council's response to an open mineshaft is half a dozen sleepers or a few tembos, I don't think we need worry about losing access.....

Thanks for posting that AR.

Does anybody have any stats about how often different CROs are called out each year?

Not my area, but is that the sort of thing?

Don't know if all organisations are included.

In addition, many (most?) CROs and MRTs for that matter publish their summary incident lists.

For example see http://www.cro.org.uk/incidents .

Having been involved in the survey and exploration of this mine, I wouldn't want to be either the one being rescued or being part of the team doing the rescue. For those who have not been underground here, its about 15km maze of passages. I am really glad it wasn't too serious.

When timed permits I will upload some 3d images of the mine workings for those who might be interested.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

yes please! I've seen a photo of the 3D map in the Mining History issue covering OMC, and the big version of the 2D plan at Magpie but never the actual 3d version

We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
