Yes very interesting!

But I detect a high degree of journalistic excess. Being stuck in a cage "elevator" and being lifted by crane in a basket is undoubtedly somewhat distressing, but trivial compared to the ordeal of those guys in South America a while back, who had to wait weeks for a hole of minimal diameter to be drilled. The Schramm drilling machine was seriously impressive!

The whole rescue effort (and all the kit involved) was most impressive.

I totally agree. I followed it closely on the internet. All that was achieved in a country which we probably regard as not fully developed and politically unstable, yet the president took a strong personal interest in the rescue. Could we actually organise a rescue like that in the UK, and would Cameron, or any of his predecessors, take time to personally greet each miner as they came up?

I also followed the rescue operations on a daily, (sometimes hourly) basis as the rescue progressed, a most impressive international effort.

Not really impressive that they needed 10 h, 15 external agencies and a hired crane for the job.

Would have been easy to deal with in a much shorter time with a proper emergency winder, either a fixed one on site or a mobile one shared between several mines and a small team.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
