Aggh, the unfortunate "Arthur Daley of the underground" reputation I seem to have acquired.

They're very bright, about 30% brighter than the original Cree version I think, which itself was superseded by a Luxeon Rebel version.

I can't honestly say I'll be upgrading though; I'm happy with my original one, but if I were getting one outright I'd go straight for this latest version.

protected rcr123.
I have been using these in small torch for a while and they have one slightly odd behaviour. Rather than get gradually dimmer they go from full to off with no transition.
Basically the light just turns off and wont go back on till its got new batteries. The first time it happens its a bit of a surprise.

It's a phenomenal bit of kit, but as with any great toy, there's a price to be paid!

Hopefully there will be a review of one along shortly... 😉

I don't do these sorts of postings very often, so excuse the commercial interlude!

New StenLight S7 Model Launched

Excellent Stuff web site: http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/StenLight-S7/c-1-69/

We've just received stocks of the latest version of the StenLight S7. This has teh following differences over the previous version:

- New emitters, Luxeon Rebel (70 grade) offering more light output and better efficiency (updated specificatons here)

- New optics from Carclo Optics, picked for their effectiveness in combination with the Rebel emitters

- A new slightly slimmer lamp, 2mm shallower than the previous S7 (why I don't know, it was small as it was!)

All S7 lamps sold by Excellent Stuff from now on will be be this new model, both the standalone lamp and in the StenPack package deals.

Prices remain as they were.

Special Offers on Oldham DL16

Excellent Stuff web site: http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/Oldham-Lamps/c-1-89/

The Oldham DL16 has sold fairly well, but in order to make space for the new Sten stock and some new ranges coming in over the next few months we're offering a discount on the Oldham lamps.

10% off the Oldham range, if anybody is interested I can issue a discount code. I think that makes them the best web prices in the UK?

You got a demonstrator for the Sten Simon?
As may have been noted I don't adapt to new fangled lighting set ups easily and wouldn't mind trying the new one for an hour or two sometime.
I have vague notions of having a Sten and my DL16 mounted on the same helmet for the best of both worlds 😉

Yes of course 🙂 Drop me a line next time you're in the area

We're also hopeful that the 100 grade version will be available within 4 to 5 months, with an upgrade option to the 100 grade from both the 70 edition and the original Luxeon III version.

Just personal preference. The little battery is 2.3Ah, the big one 5Ah so will last a little longer than 2 x small batteries. The big battery is far from enormous, but some people prefer the little battery because it's so small and light (115g).

The little battery fits better on the (optional) headstrap, but that's only an issue to people who use the Sten off a caving helmet (i.e. for other activities).

Beg to differ Simon:

I went for the GBFO battery because I know its going to last well, plus if you do what I've done and tuck it inside (contraversial I know) your hard hat the weight isn't an issue.

The GBFO battery also works well for me with the optional headstrap.

Its down to personal preferance, which battery you choose, but I just lurve it. Price was never a consideration over functionality.
