Was there a Fairlie locomotive on the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway? I seem to remember reading it somewhere, perhaps when Col. Stephens ran it? The BPGVR had running lines into Llanelli. See mention of Fairlie in Wikipedia:-

Thanks Euros! That's fascinating as I had concluded that it was the Neath and Brecon that tried a double fairlie or two, one being named "Mountaineer" - The landscape around that photo in the second link you posted is very much like the area around Penwyllt, but then half of South Wales looks a bit like that!

I have found newspaper archive relating the trial of Mountaineer in 1870 confirming this. Thanks for the help. It seems that photo used in the TV program is most likely of this loco. The Neath and Brecon loco was a few years earlier and the only photo I have of it shows it to be very different in appearance.
