Yes, its swimming with ocherous water.
The inflow to the culvert can only be located by prodding, the outflow is over to the left looking up from the road in a sort of gulley amongst the trees.

Moving on from this, there are a lot of unanswered questions about this mine, and indeed Hafan. Both have only a brief mention in O T Jones.
The Henfwlch Adit cuts what he calls the "Hafan Shaft", this is the one on the underlie where you crawl through the boulders underground.
So how deep was it sunk? Did the two mines connect?
David Bick says not but the water in the inner reaches of Henfwlch definately drains by the Hafan Deep Adit.

I used to agree with David but now I wonder.

I wondered at the time if the ocherous water had anything to do with the load of batteries that had been hoyed down the shaft but on thinking about it, the water is fairly much the same colour after the shaft anyway.

As you approach the end of the adit towards your work, it does get remarkably drier apart from the first winze where there is still a good flow.

I also expected a lot of water after your work point in the adjacent adit but found it remarkably dry in there (compared to the drive from the portal).

It's a very vuggy lode in places, Roy. I wonder to what extent that affects the drainage?

Well yes John. Both David Bick and I agreed that the water was draining into Hafan by natural fissures but if one extrapolates the level, of which there is a good survey available (not mine!) onto the OS map it all becomes very conjectural.

The Hafan Shaft which cuts the adit well before the end definately descends below adit, an internal winze of 48 feet can be descended into the outbye section of the stope where the water can be seen to be running into floor debris.

Its a real teaser.
