I added a new site to the database today but it doesn't seem to show on search yet, just wondered is there an approval process or something for new sites?

it was a quarry, Friarton quarry at Perth in the NO ordnance survey grid.

No. I did wonder if it had failed somehow as I would have expected an acknowledgement of some sort if adding a new site, I'll resubmit and see if it gets accepted.
