Hello everyone I found this item magnet fishing with my 2 sons a few years ago near the town of Oundle in Northamptonshire.

This item is not from a mine I would just like to state this I never have removed any object and I never would .

I no Priti much nothing at all about it’s use sadly , I was hoping possibly some one on here might be able to help me it appears only ever to of had 1 handle which is very strange according to me , the only similar object I have ever seen was in a old book I cannot find of a 2 handle version of a similar tool which 2 two men had a handle each to shunt up railway track .

Just educated-guessing but look like an early version of Mole Grips?

Looking at the picture it appears that squeezing the grips causes the jaws to open, not close. There is also a sort of limiter.
I would say its for expanding something. Of course, seized up with rust does not help with interpretation.

Will think about this one.

Aye. You hold it in place with the left hand and use the right hand to pull back on the extension lever.
The half round thing acts as a cam applying gradually more and more force until the stuck pipe fitting or whatever you are opening starts to move.

Agree. Much better to clean it up and use it. I have stuff here that was my father's and grandfathers and I still use it every day.

I have a Rothenberger stilson wrench that the old man bought new in West Germany in 1951. As a young airman on National Service it must have cost him half a month's wages. It lives next to the vice on my bench at home and it gets used every day for something. Even as a hammer sometimes. :lol:
