In this documentary, made in 1976, we are told the
story of the decline of the lead mining in
Swaledale, Yorkshire, UK, once an economic mainstay of
the region.

With stories of desperation and the attempts to keep the
failing industry alive, this documentary gives a unique
perspective into the lives and struggles of the miners and
their families at the time in the region, stories repeated in many other areas of the country at the time.

i certainly was not aware of it!
i think that producers of it used a wider variety of Yorkshire mine sites in it other than strictly the Swaledale mines.
However its far as i can make out the majority of these pictures are from Yorkshire!

It is also a pity that no underground pictures were used in it it's production! it refers to the filling of the enginev sump in sir Francis without much else! how much better would it have been with footage of the suns itself?

Yes, the pictures do seem to be from a region wider than just Swaledale. I think there us inly one underground shot in the documentary. Maybe all they could get their hands on at the time.

It is a good idea that old films like this are publicised but I'm less sure of the value or purpose of putting your "imprimatur" on it.

I think christwigg's approach is much more preferable

Perhaps just give the link to the source in future as I suspect YFA is a more deserving cause and anyway people can then explore that very interesting site, lots about Weardale (perhaps oddly), ironstone and much more.

A great many years ago I started keeping a list of mining videos and catching stuff that was on TV.
