UK Abandoned Mine Explores

In this one, I take Jamie for his first visit to Brownley Hill Lead Mine in the Northern Pennines. On this adventure, we do what I call the 'Shale Loop'. This involves passing through some flooded drifts and another drift, dug in shale, which to get through, requires some crawling.

Hope you enjoy.

It's been shown that the coal authority are watching YouTube and chances are even these postings some folks won't be happy untill the big yellow eraser comes and clears all the mines away these kind of postings are just as bad as exploring with fighters but me saying this I will be the bad person all because I try and keep the mines open so everyone can enjoy them safely and hopefully for the future

Lets be fair. These guys have proper equipment and Nenthead mines are hardly sensitive.

I have to agree with Roy on this, but we all should be continually aware that what we post is viewable by friend and enemy alike

I do a lot of stuff and I keep it damn quiet for damn good reasons - and I'm sure 90% of fellow explorers are of the same mind-set.

I'm also a philology nerd but I dont think critiquing another posters grammar (unless it were all CAPS or utterly devoid of punctuation) is constructive.

Worth mentioning is that UKAME also have a intro page to their vids with the appropriate warnings etc..

I think that they just need to leave coal mines and sensitive sites out of the equation.

Fair enough my grammar is not great or my spelling perfect we are all not experts at everything but what I am saying is posting these vids everywhere and anyplace using the click bait kind of titles is just the same as ewf fair enough they have some safety equipment but it only takes someone seeing the vid and going Into one of the mines and having an accident then all hell will break lose like I have already said the coal authority are watching YouTube and have committed on a few YouTube posting all I am saying is try and wind it in abit and stop posting for the likes and hits to the channels will leave it at that and yes my grammar and spelling is probably not up to standard but hopefully you get what I am trying to say and point out

[mod]I've deleted the post criticising another member's grammar. It's really not needed.

Cheers. [/mod]

I get the point about the click bait titles.

Thing is though, the web is full of mine exploration videos and criticism is a bit like peeing against the wind. Cave rescue did a Cwmystwyth, damn good video as well.

Thanks, yes, coal mines are untouched by us and sensitive areas of mines....Historic/valuable relics, digs etc don’t get put in videos and sensitive mines we visit we don’t make public videos on. Some mines we visit but don’t name at land owners request. All videos have the warnings and I try to iterate the dangers in the videos themselves. I’ve actually had people ask me if I will take them down mines, they were going to go solo but we’re put off by the info in our videos.

We were once walking down the valley at nent in full kit, covered in mud and were approached by a family. All wearing tracksuits and white trainers, the wife clad in make up. They asked me “are there any shafts we can go in”. Must have seen my draw drop. I just said...look at what I’m wearing and the state I’m in. I flatly refused to give them any directions.

It’s always been the same. I’ve seen reports of people wondering around the mines I’ll equipedfrom the 1980s. To be fair, not that many people watch my vids and the mines take school/scout trips down. Bet you word of mouth from those to their friends and family attracts a lot of the idiots.

Interesting to reflect over the recent Ben Nevis trainers ascent who ha and what we come across underground.

I think it was last November after lots of rain, two if us were jollying around Rhosydd when on the way out by Piccadilly Circus we came across a group of 4 heading towards East Twll. One with very wet feet wearing white sports socks and beach sandals. Pleasant people to talk to, and very far from being a Rab C. Nesbitt I might add.

There is actually a channel on YouTube where they go on in normal clothes, hand torch and often no footwear at all!

I don't know about full of them, I think perhaps we notice and see lots because that's what we are interested in. I suspect as a YT niche it's pretty tiny and the chances of a previously uninterested person stumbling across them quite small. Even the larger channels that do mine videos such as EWF could quite easily be dwarfed within days by say, a channel featuring an attractive young lady playing computer games in her underwear or montages of cats falling off coffee tables.

As I've said before there is a balance to be struck between showing the wider public why we love these places and want to be able to responsibly explore them as opposed to simply crashing about the place making it all look very dangerous and edgy.

Secrecy and discretion has it's place but so does a bit of showcasing - as a former competitive pistol shooter I have some experience how easily a hobby can be shut down and eliminated if it is perceived to be dangerous and most of the population didn't know it was even a 'thing' anyway and it's not seen as having any positive benefit to the wider population.

Another group on Aditnow, no safety gear in pics and advertising a youtube channel, worlds rife with them nowadays!

Damned if you do, and damned if you don''''''''t.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
