1956 Guide to Coalfields has it listed as North Eastern Division, Area 6 (North Barnsley).

We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......

Situated in the village of Darton. Had my medical there around 1967.
Pre nationalisation was owned by Fountain and Burnley, Fountain lived in a large house across the valley from the pit and if ever the winding sheaves stopped for more the a moment, there'd be a telephone call to enquire what the problem might be.
House still there, pit not....:(
