Brilliant pictures Leew, sadly now all gone, the small headgear went a few years ago and now filled (I think) and covered, with a big house on the site of it.

Agreed, and a real shame the mini headgear had been removed before the photos.
I had a relative who was a deputy at Shuttle Eye colliery, and sometimes had to inspect this as part of his duties. He always referred to it as "water pit" and as far as I remember, it was accessible underground from Shuttle Eye.
