I have just pug up some photos of the largest of the waterwheel beds at what is called "Brookwood" mine, near Buckfast, Devon.

I'm told that there were two copper mines here, operated by competing companies. One was Wheal Emma and the other should probably be called "Brook Wood" (two words), since it is in the grounds of Brook Manor and the woodland is called Brook Wood.

Both mines are on private land and the owners' permission should be sought before visiting. There are open shafts and other hazards.
