I was wondering if some kind soul with a subscription to the British Newspaper archive (or similar) could chase up a reference for me:

Newcastle Courant 5th June, 1779

This issue contained an article about John Smeaton's pumping engine he designed for Long Benton colliery.

Hello Rick - Have looked up the article and yes I have access to BNO... Also lots of other articles relating to the same in other papers of that time... ie: Watt, Newcomb etc...

Will try and deal with it over the next couple of days as off out shortly.

I have searched British Newspapers they do not have a copy of the Newcastle Courant for the 5th June 1779, I have found various references to the article and the National Archives do have a copy. I do have a copy of Mr Saint's reply in theCourant of the 12th June 1779, I do not appear to be able to attach it to this message!

Just checked a2a - the 5th June 1779 article is in the Royal Society collection. Coincidently I have an appointment to view their archive later this month.

Have looked and as stated... that particular issue (05-06-1779) isn't available. If there's anything else I can assist with let me know, as have access to BNO, as well as other subscription sites.
