Hi all, I'm heading up to the North East for work and as I don't seem to get up in that area very much I thought I would visit some mines.

I have noticed the area around Booze has a rich mining history and there is a few picture showing entrances not gated. Does anybody know if there any significant accessible levels to have a look in?

The only one I know of is Booze Wood lead mine, however I'm unsure if it's possible to visit.

There are good mines between Arkengarthdale and Swaledale that are worth a visit, especially around the Old Gang Mill. Spence Level at NGR NY972006 Co-ordinates 54.4009,-2.0446 is easy to find as it is right by the track and is worth a look. Raws Level on the moor above is harder to find at NGR NY970012 Co-ordinates 54.4063,-2.0477, GPS device strongly recommended. Further up the track is Brandy Bottle Incline at NGR NY960020 Co-ordinates 54.4134,-2.0631 but is more of a challenge due to it's steep nature. Parking is available just off the Low Row to Langthwaite road at Co-ordinates 54.3942,-2.0185 from where the obvious track leads up past Old Gang Mill.
After a good day's mine exploration why not visit nearby Tan Hill Inn where they have live music Friday and Saturday nights.

Booze Wood is still open as far as I know (unless the recent flooding had any effects not reported here)

Plenty of open stuff in Arkengarthdale, Old Moulds is fairly extensive.

Thanks for the information, sadly I've had a call from work which means I have to give someone a lift so no mines this time. Looks like it's raining all week anyway so I will save it for another day.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
