This photo and two others actually show the mine office at Carrshield, 1 mile to the north of Coalcleugh. I believe these were two separate mines

We don't seem to have Carrshield named as a mine, just Barneycraig and Scraithole.

Are the buildings associate with one of those ?
I'm not familiar with them.

Hello Chris.
The buildings are part of the Barney Craig complex.

There is a rumour that Hilary Clinton's grandfather (Roddam) lived in Low Blue Row, the row of cottages that once stood below this building. Only the stump of one cottage survives.

Do you have a map ref for these buildings Olly, I was at Barneycraig mineshop, Scraithole mine and other bits around there a few weeks ago and didn't notice your range of buildings, having said that I wasn't looking for them either. Are they on the main road and in Carrshield itself?

Edit:
There is a High Blue Row at NY 804469 on the 1890's OS map on the NLS website.

I think it was Simon who posted them, they date from 1986 so potentially not there anymore ?

They are, but the picture is deceptive

This the view from the road, the back side of the building facing Barneycraig way is two stories and T shaped, it bears little resemblance to the view in the picture from the other side

According to "Keys to the Past" High Blue Row was built in the 1840s as miners cottages, originally 4, (as was the now demolished Low Blue Row) and the terrace is Grade 2 listed.

I wonder if an architect/archaeologist could explain the lack of quoins and stone lintels on the lower floor and the quite clear demarcation line along the building line.

NLS mapping of the 1890's doesn't indicate the rearward two story bit and the current aerial image suggests it's no longer there, if we are all talking about the same place!

I think that's the next door property a couple of hundred yards away Jim
Not certain as its a good while since I passed that way

The one in the original post is a little further north towards the village

I think I may have just been looking at the place you mean, on NLS, NY 803471, looks more promising and it ties in better with Olly's comment about being just above Low Blue Row (on a very blurry earlier map on KtP)

Eventually found the right bit of information;

The office building in question is indeed at NY 803471 and is shown on the OS map as having a benchmark carved on the side facing the road at an elevation of 1330.6 feet.

I prefer the look of the building as it was in 1986; the present appearance looks dull but then we must be grateful that at least someone spent the time and money to preserve the place whereas in 1986 it appeared empty with an uncertain future.
