Another vote for the Cambrian Mines Trust from me. I visited Cwmystwyth during the NAMHO conference a couple of years ago and was very impressed. I need to make a return visit.

I also visit the Dinas Silica mines occasionally.

I'm sure the other bodies mentioned are also worthy but I'm not so familiar with them, although I did visit Combe Martin many years ago.

King Edward has been given a link to their website on this thread. Is there any info on Coombe Martin? There only seems to be the briefest of details (including "No Entry" signs) on here.

I cant find this, wonder if I'm looking at the right one.

I think some mine names need editing to put them into correct alphabetical sequence, Dinas Silica Mine comes to mind as I always struggle to find it.

Which is why I agree with Rockchick's point (and not only 'cos she'd get angry if I didn't ;)) that if people are suggesting beneficiaries to be voted on (and they are very welcome to do so) it would be helpful if they could include a bit of info!

Perhaps Roy could outline the financial needs of CAL? At present my impression is that CMT needs financial resources significantly more than CAL - but I could well be incorrect.

I'll reserve my vote until after Roy posts.

Hi Robert, hope you are well

Cave Access Ltd is not a trading company but is legally dormant, and does not hold a bank account. As point of interest, Natural Amenities Ltd is the same, however as CMT hold 50% of the stock and a seat on the board, CMT is meeting NAL's expenses, which so far has only amounted to the legal fees relative to the acquisition of Dinas.

If any expenses arise relative to CAL is likey that they will be met by Cambrian Caving Council. There is an intention for CAL to take on board natural caves if there is a way to resolve access issues by so doing.

Off topic, but I shall likely visit Dinas this weekend and have noted that the 'landowner' Natural Resources Wales closes the car park at night and has a barrier in place. This could be interesting as I intend to stay the night there and apart from the rights that go with mineral ownership, as the car park is a disused limestone quarry its not their car park but NAL's.

Thank you for clarifying the status of CAL, Roy.

My vote is for CMT for this year.

The 'in' barrier is locked as per the published times and the 'out' see-saw barrier is always open for out.

Yes John I am aware, however...

I will request and expect to receive a key as the barrier presents a "Private Nuisance" to the right of free access that belongs to NAL.

In such cases a request for a key must in law be provided otherwise NAL will have the right to remove the barrier or apply for a Court Order.

I have no wish to be confrontational but "know your rights and stand your ground" is my ongoing policy.

My attitude is that I would like things to continue as they are and readily appreciate the need for securing the car park at night, however it does detract from the rights of NAL and that isn't acceptable to me.

EDIT
One of things I want to look at there is possibility of making the mine more easily accessible to people such as divers who have heavy equipment to carry.

IIRC, the small blue sign in the image, (between the two larger signs) indicated that the EU were involved in the car park project. Best of luck if you have to deal with that bunch in any shape or form.;D

Edit: On the plus side there may be more EU grant funds available.:)

Agree, the mention of possible improved access for divers may be of benefit to a great many ordinary visitors if the original ramp was ever rebuilt.
I also suppose the tunnel from river level to the main mine could be utilized for the same purpose with the construction of a small bridge.

I disagree.

I feel that it should be split as per usual. There are other organisations doing good work that need the help too.

with strings attached?

See all, this is the thing. Underground work = own money = no strings attached.

Don't have to spell this out.

Hi Alana

No problem, it'll be posted up on here and Facebook when ready.

However we need to get to the bottom of this beneficiary thing. I've had a few PMs telling me we ought to split the proceeds "as usual" (there is a precedent for a single beneficiary). But those PMs didn't mention any suitable beneficiaries. So we're in the dark still.

I'm going to lock this thread and start another asking JUST for beneficiaries to be named. We can then vote.

All votes cast to date will be counted in the event of CMT being voted sole or part beneficiary.
