Now here's a tale about the good ol' US of A (hand on heart, misty eyes) supporting private enterprise with 'hard ass' tactics in the name of national security.
Such a fine country.......................
The Govt response was predictable to say the least.

I might have read this wrong,
Did it say the mine started 130 yrs ago,and not been worked since the mill was destroyed in the 50`s

No mention of the proven reserves to warrant a higher price.

I agree, without a current survey to establish its worth, then it probably isn't worth much.
However, I think what has greatly outraged the public is the fact that Uncle Sam can force people off their property by annexing the land around them, thus making them in effect, trespassers on their own land.
Given their previous record with the native people of the country, I guess they are displaying a certain consistency.

It all seems like a proper muddle.

I'm struck by the comparison with the bombing and strafing range near me where you are free to wander all over it as long as the red flag isn't flying.

The nearest houses are quite close, probably within a mile.

Perhaps our chaps take the precaution of aiming?:lol:

The photo doesn't do it justice, they hit it pretty good, it's fairly well riddled. The practice bombs don't have much if any bang to them.

Heavier stuff seems to be aimed at another pair of barges further out.

One of my favourite non-underground spots, no crowds here! If you visit know your tides and watch out for very soft very deep mud!
