I have opened this thread for obvious reasons.

Anyway, #1 from me

Dickie, with reference to your 1980 visit to Wheals Castle and Call. Was there an adit open just behind the old compressor house. Was the Pelton or anything else in house that isn't there now.
Was there an adit open off the beach just below. There is an adit there but is blocked by a collapse which is to be seen right on the cliff path above.

Many thanks

Roy, yes, I recall the Pelton wheel and adit, but can't tell you anything about the lower one you mention. I do know - although I never did it - that there was some sort of 'through route' here. I think this was when the NMRS were having a meet down in the area and some guys did this 'though route', which I assume was through the headland. Are you saying that the little building below the wheel pit is now no more?

Can someone help on this please.
I am sure there must be a load of photos of the present day remains on the seaward end of this valley.

May be under any mine name as there is a few around there. I cant even find pictures of the Boscean arsenic works! My understanding is that its Wheals Call, Cunningham, and Castle seaward end with (looking up valley) Drea on the left and lower and upper Boscean on the right.

If I need to go to Specsavers then so be it but can someone advise. I have a load of my own photos if need be but trying to avoid duplication.

EDIT
Im going through every mine. first hit

Well I have uploaded what I have of Wheal Call, now appropriately renamed from "Call", and also Lower Boscean arsenic works. Must take some better pictures I think.
Dickie, you can see the state of the compressor house now, open to the skies!

I think that the Wheal Call site is of particular interest and must be fairly unique in the land of massive steam pumping engines. I fancy that the flat rods would be of heavy timber, rather like the ones underground in Llanrwst (Cornish Captains?), or possible more to do with shaft depth.

A bit more.
"Boswedden + Castle" is not very good, and has been ammended in the past to "Boswedden and Wheal Castle".

Can Simon please tweak the photo captions, and Wheal Call as well please.
:)
