What's on your to-do list for Mine Exploring in 2015?

Looking in my diary over Christmas it struck me that although we've spent a large part of the year mining through solid rock to get into a flipping sh-thole of a cave, I've only been in one actual proper mine in the last six months & that was merely a hands in pockets mince around Cwmorthin.

So just going in a mine, any mine will be a start!

I'm planning on doing some Tanzanian gold and gem mines (OP and UG) and going back to Western Turkey - should be a good year 😉.

Anywhere that doesn't involve inflatable boats and ochre waterfalls appearing out of nowhere!

Well I have lot going on but here goes.

Frongoch: I refuse to bite the bullet about the fall on the 14. Its very unstable but with care a road through could be made. Problem is that tight crawl over the backfill to get there. I have started opening it out already.
Garlands report indicates a big zinc stope down to adit level, soon get it bolted for SRT.
Need to regain access to Engine Shaft as well.

Goginan: I intend to push the dig beyond the 'crush' as I call it. If its all caved in then its game over there.

Alltycrib/Talybont: The ladder shaft is reasonably passable again and I want to rip all the timber out of the upper section and packwall/ concrete. It needs to last as its the only access to deep adit.

Cwmystwyth:
Make a start on reopening Hen Barc (with SSSI approval)
Get permanent support under the sagging timber above the skipway (with SAM approval)
Do something about starting a road through the fall that blocks easy access to the skipway (with SAM approval)

The New Year should see the gateway signage in place and we should know what playing field we're on re the hydro

There is a few other bits and pieces and possibly some good news early in the New Year, but nothing to say on this as yet.

I lost a whole load of pictures when a hard drive died so just about everywhere is on my hit list so I can take them again.
Hopefully better than the first time around 😉

External HD? Chances are, the drive itself is fine, it's usually the electronics that interface it to the USB that are dead. Out of *all* the drives I've seen, (thousands, I used to work electronics retail for years), only 2-3% were actually dead drives.

You can get enclosures from many places, china, online, hell, your local maplin will do them. If you were close enough to me, I'd sort it for you.

On-Topic.

I may venture into a c**e this year ;-)

There's still a lot of stuff that needs poking around in in the general area here to see if it's accessible, but this area is like swiss cheese, so we'll do that in fits and starts.

Coniston - I still want to pay a visit here.

Can someone near the Nent with IT savy help Helen out on this, or failing that I will take the drive next time up.

After all, she does take very fine photographs.

Best advice
Do NOT try anything to "recover" the data unless you understand what you are doing.
You could end up corrupting what is on there now! :(
Best wait for Roy or someone else.

Thanks Roy, thanks Chris :flowers:.

Would be great if they could be recovered, although it's a good reason to go back to alot of places :)
I'm sure it won't be long before our paths cross again Chris, I'll let you have it then. Thanks!

I have just been going through a pile of old drives to see which ones were working and if any were of any use, (1Gb drive anyone?) so I'm up to speed with remounting hard drives if that's any help?
I'm up the Nent on Sunday so could call in on way past...
