Hi, can I impose on you all for a bit of local knowledge?

I'm off the Portland in Dorset this weekend, mainly to look at military stuff including the Portland ROTOR radar bunker. I've had a look at the Aditnow gazeteer to see if there are any mines or quarries in the area worth a look, but I can't see any that have accessible underground workings.

I know the bits further up the coast at Dancing Ledge, etc, but can anyone tell me if there's owt to visit in this area?

Many thanks

John 🙂
I don't like the look of that woodwork.

Plenty of caves:

THE CAVES OF THE ISLE OF PORTLAND by Mike O'Connor and Nigel Graham with additional material by Mike Read and Andy Mactavish WCC Occ Pub Ser 3 No 3 1996 104 pp illus surveys. Portland is famous for the HM Verne Prison which is probably the reason the WCC members went there in the first place! So if you tire of sun bathing on the Weymouth beach, then just amble along the coast to the best caving area in the south of England. SB
Cutting coal in my spare time.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
