Surprisingly, the DM has come up with a feature on undersea mining in Cornwall. Some nice photos and an interesting plan of Levant (does not zoom - totally exasperating). Some of the cleverer chaps here may know the sources used.

Thanks for the article, that brought back memories, Levant skip shaft was tight as hell, Eric Gale and Norman Barnicote(shaftmaster and his mate) used to jump up and down on the cage floor if it jamed up on the way down!

Must be an early one, no strip lights, we stripped the conveyor out of the incline when the mine shut.

Hi there, no I didn't know Robin Whale although I have heard of him, I was the Sawyer/Carpenter at the mine, when it shut we and a few others were kept on for care and maintainance.

Hi again, not sure about the winder, the conveyor I refered to in my other post was "rescued" so far as I remember it was tarted up on surface and flogged to another mine, abroad maybe.
At that time at Geevor there was no money, a bloke from up country was involved, I think he had been involved in stripping out the coal mines after the Maggy and Co. decree, he might have owned the mine for a short while or had some controlling interest in it, they were dark days, he gave the instruction to pull out the conveyor so far as I remember, the actuall stripping out operation was overseen by our Chief Engineer Bob Orchard, I don't think Bob or anyone was to happy about it.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
