Thanks for that link (though the name of the link is unfortunate- there's nothing 'amusing about it imho). I feel I should be disapproving (and I am!) but the fact is we did exactly the same to our children pre the 1842 Mines Act "http://www.historyhome.co.uk/peel/factmine/childmin.htm"

The photography is quite amazing, I never been to India but for images like this it would be worth it. You have to feel sorry for the poor buggers that work there.
