I stumbled upon today tucked away in one of furthest corners of the National Coal Mining Museum's website a full digitised set of the National Coal Board's in house magazine COAL from May 1947 to April 1957

A cracking bit of socio-economic history and hopefully the first of many online resources from the NCM.

Just had a quick look at volume 1. Very much in the same style (perhaps of the era of house magazines?) as "Caban" -The Oakeley & Votty Quarries house magazine - but with period advertisements, perhaps the same publisher ? I vagueley recall a comment by the last but one Oakelely manager who I spoke to saying something along those lines - I'll have to look up my notes.
A superb colour photo of the winding engine, power house, boiler house etc. of one of the Coventry pits.
A fascinating resource to be investigated.

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

Brilliant and thanks for putting me on to it. Now how about some issues of Colliery Engineering...
