If you are into Cornish mines and mining pictures, the first one here, from AK Hamilton Jenkin's book on the Camborne and Illogan district, will be familiar as will be the caption.

While scanning some slide the other day I came across a copy of the same photo and noticed something scrawled into the border of the plate. Being written on the Collodion emulsion side, probably whilst still wet, it showed the writing reversed when printed. A quick flip in Photoshop revealed the following caption
'Workers W Frances Mine'
Has this been reproduced anywhere else as South Frances?
Morrison seems to have got it right.

"But I''m not Chinese!"
"Then you must have forgotten something!"

You are right Roy, that is West Francis. I have another picture shewing the chimney leaning at an alarming angle.

One of my favourite pics is the leaning chimney with an elderly top-hatted man standing beneath. It's a fantastic photo.

I'd like a blown up copy of that to whack on my wall.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
