Monday night at 9.00 pm, on BBC4, a programme called "When Coal Was King".

I'm looking forward to looking back - if you know what I mean!!

Great programme , Surprised to see miners in the 40's / 50's still wearing carbide cap lamps
and quite a few lighthouse electric lamps about

I believe 1970 was when the last of carbide lamps were used underground in coal mines.

An interesting documentary with lots of content which I quite enjoyed.

Is being discussed over on "Welsh Coal Mines Forum" with some interesting points raised.

Maybe worth looking at again in light of the occasional inaccuracies which the Welsh Coal Mines team pointed out
