The 2014 calendar is nearing completion :)

So I guess it is time to put the beneficiaries to the vote.

As always we will be donating every penny of profit to the chosen causes / groups. Profit is total sales minus print cost minus postage minus PayPal transaction fees. Nothing else is deducted.

Every year we put it to the vote. And typically we choose two beneficiaries. One a preservation or similar group, and the other a cave rescue organisation.

So... Firstly... Shall we have the same two beneficiary approach this year?

And secondly who?

I would like to start by nominating a few.

CMT - Roy Fellows Roy has worked to open the previously inaccessible Cymystwyth mines. And he has sunk a lot of his own money into the Trust which maintain the mines and the access.

Cave Rescue Organisations: to date we have donated to North Wales CRO, Devon CRO and Derbyshire CRO.

Previous reccomdations that didn't quite attract enough votes were Midland Cave Rescue and Cornwall Search and Rescue and so it seems reasonable to nominate them for voting.

Obviously feel free to suggest others and/or cast your vote in this thread.

I'd second Roy. More than anybody else without exception he goes out of his way to detail his various digs and so on to the users of this website & it seems fitting that his group should be provided assistance accordingly as a consequence.

Ditto for Roy. Cwmystwyth and the mostly unsung dilligent work that has gone into the project seem typical of him. He just plods away on things for the benefit of others and future generations. I'm sure there are plenty of quiet little (or not so little) projects he's undertaken that we don't know about. Also his knowledge and honesty on the lamp front are well documented.

Roy: Cheque for the agreed sum to my home address please. 😉

I am deeply touched by everyone’s kindness.
For general interest, this is a statement of account re setting up the purchasing the mines.

The setting up of CMT I am more than happy to bear myself and require no reimbursement.

Legal cost, well......

Cwmystwyth was 2 invoices totalling £1273. I have received an anonymous donation of £500 plus another £250 from Welsh Mines Society.

The purchase of Bwlch Glas mineral rights is currently at solicitor stage and will involve further expense.

I would be very happy for all profits to go to Roy/CMT. I can't think of a more deserving cause this year. Cheers Roy, you're an inspiration

Another vote for Cambrian Mines Trust please. Especially in their first year they need all the help they can get  .

Following convention, if a donation to a CRO is made then I suggest Midlands as they also do a great deal assist in other neighbouring CROs thus potentially spreading the "benefit" over a wider area. Every little helps etc.

Just one more thing occurs. If one reads our articles is becomes apparent that I can be reimbursed for my costs of setting up the Trust and personal expenses. The Trust will also be bidding for funding relative to a program of improvements to the Cwmystwyth site.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, any funding will of course be earmarked for specific projects and grazing income has to be spent on maintaining existing safety work and the Trust will be prioritising this on what we regard as 'essential' that is, open shafts and similar where the existing fencing becomes damaged.

I am normally of the opinion that a split between a CRO and a preservation scheme is the best way to do this.

However, can I suggest this year a "special case" is made that all the money raised should go to Cambrian Mines Trust?

The calender was initially produced for one cause, Cwmorthin, when that had just started.

Roy has sent a good deal of his time and money setting this organisation up and as it is still in it's comparatively early stage needs a good injection of cash to deal with outstanding setting up costs. Therefore I think this year should all go to this one cause.

I'd go for CMT. If split then MCRO as well.

I am more than happy for ALL the proceeds to go the CMT, as long as the majority of the funds go to Roy (or whoever else has invested in the project) to cover his (their) expenditure, he has certainly gone above and beyond the "call of duty" in ensuring the best access to a very important site.

This, however, should not be considered as a "precedent".
