Dear All,

Just to keep everyone informed that the next stage of the RCAHMW work. Three quarries are being recreated as part of the 'Atlanterra' project I am involved in. In discussion with Dr Dafydd Gwyn the three will be:

Maenofferen

Vivian

Pen-y-Bryn, Nantlle

The animators have asked that we will be able to supply them with information about these three sites, so if anyone has any information, links or otherwise please either contact me through here or spencer.smith @rcahmw.gov.uk

Thank you for you help in advance,

Spencer Smith

Everything really. Maenofferen and Vivian are pretty well covered after the surveys we carried out there and the information we have available here - although anything could be of use in establishing the chronology of events.

The weak link at the moment is Pen-y-Bryn, Nantlle. Although we have the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust Report and the G.P. Jones Report and Dr Dafydd Gwyn took us to visit the site two weeks ago, there are still questions about machinery and other features which have been lost since the quarry closed. The RCAHMW will be visiting to carry out a survey in the new year, but any information would be useful.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
