I have one of the original Raptors and it has served me well at a budget price. Not the brightest and the beam is tighter than I would wish, but quite sufficient for the purpose.

''the stopes soared beyond the range of our caplamps' - David Bick...... How times change .... oh, I don't know, I've still got a lamp like that.

Actually, one innovation I'd like to see on headlamps is face detection. Perfectly possible as a lot of cameras have it now.

When the lamp detected a human face directly in front of it, being bathed in 400+ lumens, it would turn its chuffing self OFF! :curse:

Got both the old version of the Retro 2:

...and one of Roy's EcoStar lamps:

Both excellent lamps. Prefer the Retro 2 for close-up photography, and the EcoStar is a bit more powerful (though it looks like the Retro has been uprated with brighter LEDs recently?) - both have survived a fair battering.

A couple of mates have the Raptors, but i find the beam far too tight which tends to give me a headache.

Used the two together to do some painting-with-light photos in Wrysgan and Cwmorthin.
