Hello All,

Myself and my girlfriend are venturing down to Wales on the week commencing the 18th of October. We fancy having a tour around Rhosydd. I have ventured to the end of the adit on Street barracks level (Level 9 i think), but i am aware that when you get to the junction, both directions are blocked by falls. I neither have the experience nor the stupidity to climb up the internal incline for the first time un-guided.

Would anyone be available around that time who would be up for a trip? We have been down quite a few quarries in the area but are not SRT qualified so preferably a tour that doesn't involve death defying stunts. Tight spaces and clambering up piles of boulders would be a fine though.

Thanks

Pete

Hi there, its a shame I'm in Spain that week so I can't really help you. It is possible to go further than the end of the No. 9 adit and there are some nice things to see. If you were to follow the route used by the Croesor through trip you could see the incline with wagon and mochyn still intact, along with the sheave at the top. Its a difficult route to describe but I'm sure somebody would have a go if you were interested.

Just go in the 9 adit, up the incline, and just before the collapse, find your way to the right and up a backfilled chamber, and you'll pop out in the bottom of the West Twll. Have a poke about, heading towards Croesor, if you don't know where you're going, you'll find plenty to explore.
Finally either return out of 9, or climb the Twll to the top.

Chris.

That's fine, it is a bit short notcie anyways.

I have seen a plan in PDF format of the quarry which will be handy, i don't suppose anyone has a written account of directions or anything like?

Also how treacherous is the complex, as there are quite a few obvious falls, have any happened recently? Are there any parts that need to be avoided?

Thanks for your help, i want to make a decent trip out of it because i have some tasty new torches that i want to try out. 😉

Will PM you a more detailed description Hammond 🙂 It's not hard to navigate, and it's not that treacherous. Will send you something with more details this evening

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
