Dinas Silica Mine (Upper) pics updated using the Oldham 'Redwinch' conversion.

Forgot my glasses so all pics at the preset manual settings on the camera.

15 seconds @ f2.8, lamp stationary throughout exposure times, next trip take glasses and try a bit less aperture/time I think. 🙂

That looks ace. The beam must be really wide on that lamp, if that was stationary. I could do with one of those myself.

Thanks Dean, the lamp is one of these fitted into an Oldham, The reddish shadow in some pics must be mine as the lamp man was behind or to one side.
One pic also looks burned out in the wrong area so not sure what happened there.

Nice one. I might have to get one of these. I havent been able to find a decent torch with a wide spread. All mine have a nasty hotspot in the middle.

The unit has a brighter spot but I think passage dimensions mask a lot of it, the spot is a long way off and it does not have a sharp focused edge.
Inverse square law also helps, I think?

I see the spot you mean now. I use a Fenix led torch mainly. It has a horrible tight spot but I have been using a latex glove recently and it makes an amazing difference.

I'll remember my glasses and, as you suggest, take a few bits of diffusing material next time.

Yes , putting the torch inside a thin latex glove is good. You get less light output but for close up artefact shots its excellent as you dont need to keep the light moving, its very diffused.

I had better be carefull what I say, as Morlock lives just over the hill from me, but I think a photo without some form of scale is useless. Even Roy fellows agrees with me :tongue:

I did think of you Tony when I posted but thought it would be OK as you've been there alnost as many times as me. :tongue: :tongue:

The more I look at the perfect water surface reflection I wonder how much extra range has been gained by reflected light, if any?

Thank you. 🙂 If you look at this pic full sized there appears to be a white plastic bottle for scale (lower right).
