just had country tracks on bbc1 on ,and a trip into honister slate mine where one miner said the slate is best in the world .ithought us welsh produced the best or am i biased. :lol:

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he! Fair play, it does look and sound pretty good stuff.
That said, it is metamorphosed volcanic ash which is different to the metamorphosed mudstone of Penrhyn/Ffestiniog etc.
Perhaps comparisons shouldn't be pushed too far!
While I'm bound to consider Penrhyn material to be some of the best in the world...well, I would say that wouldn't I!
Interesting to watch the video on the Honister site and see how it is docked and rived. Why isn't a gauge stick used? Why are the corners docked? The ball pein hammer is, I suppose, a matter of personal choice; interesting.
