Mention of Sunday's explore to Moelwyn, Fron Boeth and Pant Mawr and long range weather forecasts.

I usually use a combination of XC Weather http://www.xcweather.co.uk/  and the BBC weather home page http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/ .

Usually they completely disagree with each other :curse:

Any suggestions for a really reliable source of online forecasts :flowers:

As the majority of the weather forecasts derive from the Met Office anyway, why not look at their site direct?

Quite agree Peter although there are plenty of independant firms these days. Anyway having worked for them for over 40 years I'd better give them a plug. Your link failed for some reason.

Good point.

But why do they therefore disagree so often?

I use the Met Office site quite a bit for immediate forecasting - especially the rainfall radar page which can give a good idea of what is just over the horizon and making a beeline for you.

I don't know who XC weather are but they are not connected to the Met. Office. The BBC on the other get their weather forecasts after direct consultion with the chief forecaster at Met. Office headquarters, Exeter.
As I mentioned earlier it may stretching it a bit these days to say most of the forecasts come from the Met. Office. Aviation possibly excepted. The days of a Met. Office monopoly are long gone. Musn't go on about this or a migraine may set in remembering all the union meetings.
Then there were the offshore oil contracts......no I'm not going there.

Yes the weather radar is an excellent facility for short term decisions.

I would not count on it, although the CO2 fraudsters are praying for it.
Its basically the 'last chance saloon' after 2 cold summers and the coldest winter in decades. Public sceptism over the climate change con is at its highest, its high noon.

CO2 Fraudsters.... nice to see you being non-political per usual Roy!

Nothing up with a bit of plant food gas, or a V8 for that matter..... :)

Weather wise, before I spent too much time at work or down holes, I did a lot of surfing. The best site in my opinion is www.magicseaweed.com

Under "tools" there are links to all sorts of charts/diagrams/tools.

Quite useful if you are planning a shore trip. There are tide curves, swell direction/periods/etc.

None of this cloud or sun nonsense. Proper data so that you can make your own mind up.

Ignore the "radness" of the site, it is very good indeed.

Hi Stuey, I knew that you would come and stand by my side!

Advice to everyone, and its non political.
It’s still a free society, unless of course you stand up and heckle new L... sorry I did say non political, it’s the lager at this time of night, sorry again.

Off the subject of mining, so promise not to post in this way again, unless of course a CO2 profiteer is looking to do battle.

But of course worse case scenarios regarding rising levels of CO2 could well result in much colder temps in Britain and Scandinavia. The ocean conveyor system breaks down.......
Nothing political there Roy but Gary Cooper is reloading.

Roy, I do risk assessments sometimes for a living!! and as an insider there are those who would blast me for what I am about to say...

Risk assessment has become an industry no longer based on telling the truth or giving a realistic overview but based on giving the answers that the government, newspapers, etc want to hear in order to justify their policies, methods and to sell whatever mistruths they seek to peddle in order to take your eye off the ball, gain funds, allow police to harass you for taking a picture etc etc....

It is now a self perpetuating industry backed by people with money employing big names in the Risk business to back / justify their pet theories.... justification of spend or aquiring spend is now key.
Eg-
You don't sell many papers saying '30,000 people found alive after walking thru Dinorwig' but you will sell shed loads with 'man found dead in quarry, council asked why was there no fences?'...
Immediatley the council will run off and do a risk assessment and those doing it will tell them exactly what the press want to hear so the council can show it has carried out its duty of care... the fact the guy was a suicide will have been minimilised and the fact he had lost his job and was depressed will not matter or the fact he would have topped himself some how. But the council will use this perceived risk to justify huge sums of money for fencing .... most of which they will spend on other crappy stuff they would never ever have got funding for!

Even our professional bodies are using our fears and perception of risk to aquire research grants and secure funding....

Eg- 'please give me £10k to research this flower as it won't grow elsewhere', versus 'please give me £10k to investigate why global warming may have stopped this flower growing elsewhere' who would currently get the funding??

Great book

Frankly I don't believe a bloody word anyone in any sort of power has to say re personal risk.... the reality is for most the world has never been safer.... fact..

In global warming terms I believe there are a huge number of issues but until I see people stop trying to build political power bases and justify policies, or lack thereof by employing the risk industry I won't believe a word.

Well said Roy  I think you should run the country 🙂
I used to use the BBC site for weather but since they changed it, I find it highly confusing. Just use the good old met office now, though I used to be into doing my own forecasting with satellite imaging receivers etc.

Cutting all this rubbish to the bare minimum.....

With anything, you have a bunch of data and a methodology for analysing the data and ascertaining it's significance....

Anyone with a half decent education can see and nod at the conclusions. They make sense, they follow a process, they are not rocket science or mystical.

The rubbish that the biased and UN funded IPCC come up with has no significant data, nor does it have a methodology. What it does have is a bunch of people following a thread with almost religious fervour, determined to prove their points. Sadly, science still operates on the data/methodology critique, in order to have some order of credibility. It's not what you hear on the news.......

I've worked alongside ex-IPCC staff as well as another guy who is making a lot of fuss about the oceans. Having an in depth chat to them about their methodology/data leads me to believe they have little to add to the subject, apart from their very large politically weighted soapboxes.

In my opinion, anthropogenically driven climate change is a noble lie, governed by the seriousness of peak oil. Conservation of resources, in order to maintain civilisation is one thing.... bleating on about things that make plant food gas is at best, the politics of envy and hippies hating the owners of half decent cars, or at worst, a pseudo religious bunch of godless freaks, desperately seeking some sort of meaning on planet earth and directly influencing my frigging life with their non-data non-methodoloical bullshizzle forcing me to grow a wind turbine and stop eating meat.

This crap will be proven for what it is, as there are allready correlations in the data which speak for themselves and will prove themselves right, whereas increasing concentrations of tax-gas will do nothing to the climate whatsoever.

Wait and see.

As a proper scientist, I will change my mind according to the evidence, for instance, if god shows up right now, I will cease being an athiest, however, these people have a point to prove and are merely delving deeper into jargon and models in order to prove their non-data backed up point...

I disagree entirely with that, fact.. Anyone with any sort of power is of course a meaningless statement, so will ignore. The world has always been safer if of course you ignore a rogue virus. 50 million dead in 1918 and that can still happen.

Your latter statement I think requires a little more detail about the issues. I'm not sure what you don't believe a word about.
