I posted a photo of Mt Wellington on here and it appeared a couple of weeks later in a news letter no watermark on it, nor even a credit. The irony of it is, I'm a member of that society and received one of the newsletters direct through the post.
It makes you reluctant to publish them at all when they start popping up in other places. It could even hinder your chancees of publishing them as part of a book because they would have already been used in another publication.

That's not good to hear 😞 Sorry about that. About a month back after another member reported a similar thing with images he'd scanned to upload. After that the following line was put below each and every image:

© This photograph is copyright MEMBERNAME, please do not copy or distribute without prior express permission.

If anybody wants a complaint sending where images have been lifted, just drop me a PM. However as ICLOK points out, it does happen and it happens all over the web.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

They have this discussion frequently on 28dayslater.
It seem's the press think that because obtaining some images are on the dodgy side of legal, that publishing them without permission is fine.
But the guys from 28dl, always follow up any pictures of theirs that have been published anywhere without permission and send invoices with a 28 day to pay clause. If there is no forthcoming payment, they will and have gone to the small claims court and always win.

A guide to what you can charge here http://www.londonfreelance.org/feesguide/phonlrat.html .

If your pictures have been used anywhere without your permission, then send an invoice. You are well within the law and within your rights to do so.

I must admit I got £150 quid for a airliner shot at Frankfurt snaffled by an online magazine in Oz..... they were actually really nice about it though and had put they could not find the owner..... I got in touch and they credited me by CHAPS 2 weeks later. My picture had been thru 3 sites by then it appeared and changed size and properties twice!!!

Might start chasing :guns:
