Sounds like a bit of skulduggery afoot in Brandy Bottle Chris, although the bottom level does flood to the roof in bad weather & the whole through trip becomes 'very interesting' in the extreme (ask Dono for details 😮 ).
One more question though. I fancy a look at Old Moulds and Routh. Just want to be prepared as it is a long way. Does the walk to the mines involve steep hill climbing or is it fairly level? And what kind of distance from the car would we be talking?
Dean, Old Moulds is right next to a farm track just off the main road (at NY997026) where as Routh is about a 2km walk down a fairly level track to Great Punchard Gill (at NY960044), unless you have a 4x4 & permission, in which case you can drive right up to it. The entrance to Routh is also 'hidden' 😉
