A thought I have been pondering over for a while (mainly with a particular quarry in mind, but am sure it applies elsewhere sometimes).

What do we do about albums etc when a mine changes it's name? Well that is covered by "alternative names". What is more of a problem is if the mine changes, keeping the same name! This has happened now (as I knew it would soon), with Cwt y Bugail slate quarry. The original quarry had more than one name (for instance it was also called New Welsh Slate Quarry for a time, and appeared on maps thus). Now the same name has been applied to a totally different mine, what is the answer? The way it stands at moment (and this is what has now happened) photographs from two totally different mines have appeared in the same album.

My suggestion is photos etc should be put in the "generally accepted" named album, otherwise it is going to get very confusing!

If you're speaking of the Cwt y Bugail archieve album, I've just been confused by that...

I always use Cwt y Bugail to refer to the original quarry, as opposed to one recently renamed that for no apparant reason.

Could the title of Manod be changed to 'Manod (Now Cwt-y-Bugail)' to avoid confusion? Just an idea.

Good thinking, I've added 'now known as Cwt-y-Bugail' to the Manod page http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Manod-Slate-Mine-2/

I think the mine name should always be what it was originally or better known as, with the alternate name field used for these (confusing) variations?

my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by
