I have heard lot of discussion about this volume and have for months tried to order copies but without success. The publisher is a one man band and as a result things are done at his pace. It was with relief the parcel arrived with my stock at last

Slate Quarry Album; Ann & Gordon Hatherill, second edition, SB, 200pp, 149 duotone and 243 colour photographs, 19 scale drawings, 18 diagrams and sketches, 11 maps

The book is absolutely superb with all colour photos which is never going to be cheap it is without doubt a credit all involved with the authors spending some 20 years researching and photographing the sites. The only sad part for me is the lack of Underground features but clearly the Hatherhills are railway and surface enthusiasts. I particularly like the chapter which includes four walks for anyone unsure of the area this is a superb aid complete with maps, photos and route details. The walks vary in length and are as follows: Gorseddau Quarry & Ynsypandy Mill; Croesor Tramway; Rhiwbach Tramway; Rhoysydd Quarry and Tramway.

I can't recommend this book enough - now only available in softback £24.00 + P&P

An excellent book. Agreed slight disappointment about lack of underground photos of slate mines, but the archive quarry photos more than make up for it 🙂
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
