🔗Personal-Album-2-Image-029[linkphoto]Personal-Album-2-Image-029[/linkphoto][/link]

For sale: Metz 60-CT4 dual flash gun with battery pack (lead acid Dryfit) and charger.

I've tested it today and all seems to work.

This is the first of a batch of Metz flash units I have for sale, although this is the only 60-CT4. The 60 is very powerful and is suited to open-flash photography. These were bought from a military surplus auction and are ex-RAF as far as I can tell.

The only drawback is that this does not include the lead to connect the flash gun to the battery pack, although this can be sourced relatively easily. It might also be possible to install your own lead with connector between the two.

Price? Well, I'm open to offers... the going rate seems to be about £70-80 with the lead included, so somewhere about half that seems fair in the light of condition and the missing lead (allow £15 to £20).

Shoe? No, but I believe that it can be fitted with a link cable.

In effect, it's a relatively simple device for issuing big bursts of light - I'll find the couple of pics I got with mine and post em up...

A bit off topic, but what mine did you go down?

WOW - a little bigger than the flashguns I use, I would get one... 'if I had the money currenty'...

May be relevant to someone interested: Most of my underground shots from the 1980's were taken with one of these, allbeit on conventional colour film.

Graham - I take it you were firing off several flashes per pic in the larger chambers?

The big progress these days is in LED technology - I've recently been using a Fenix P3D to light some big chambers with surprisingly good results. Given that the torch is smaller than an AA Maglite and uses only a pair of CR123A batteries (3v versions of an AA give or take), it's all the more impressive.

That said... I don't think that light painting will give as clean a photo as using a big flash gun for a couple of reasons:
- the flash gives you a more diffuse spread of light without 'puddling'
- something odd in digital cameras seems to introduce a lot of purple with a long exposure: with a flash you've got far less time when the shutter is open and light is going in
- most LED of halogen torches have a tint to their light output. The Luxeon Rebel 100 is the whitest I've seen yet, but you can get some LEDs which produce a very odd tint

I think I may have wondered off-topic... anyway: I'll take my Metz CT60 and have a play if I get a chance over the Cwmorthin work weekend (this weeked) and post up some pics using it.

In very large chambers, yes, if I had the chance! Most photographs I've posted (I think) are single shots. Both these two at Maenofferen were single shots:

(There's more to come in this series, but I've got an Oakeley priority search/negative scan going on at the moment.)

On eBay at the moment, first one of the Metz flash guns, item number 290251874442 - something of a delay as I put them in a cupboard and then forgot about them until I did a bit of spring-cleaning 😞

UserPostedImage

This one consists of flash head 60CT-4 and battery pack 60CT-1/2 (including battery) plus charger - but not the lead from the battery pack to the flash gun!

Auction closes 11.42 tomorrow, Friday 15th - price is currently £1 😮

Indeed - I was rather surprised by the price!

We've currently got a pair of 60-CT-1 flashheads with a battery pack as John says, item no. 290253668188

UserPostedImage

There's another pair of 60-CT1 flashheads with battery to come, then a couple of pairs of 60-40 flasheads, again with battery packs.

Given that there are a few more of these to come on eBay, I'd reckon they won't sell for as much as the first one so I'd prefer (for now) not to offer them for sale on here in case they subsequently sell on eBay for less later - basically I don't want to overcharge anyone!

Hmmm... it's got to a rather surprisingly high £41 with a day to go!

I've got several 60-CT1 and 60-40 heads and about three or four battery packs left. None have the power cables, so you need to budget for about £20 and a bit of a hunt as well, unless you're feeling brave and want to dismantle the things and hard-wire them together (although I'd suggest a bought power cable would be a better idea).

Because work paid for them and I've got to get back at least what we paid for them, if anyone's interested in something, drop me a pm 🙂
