Winsford Salt Mine: From Drill and Blast to Automated Continuous Mining, will explore the historic method of drill and blast; focusing on the move from continuous miners to the automation of the miners and the benefits of automation. Alternative Mine Uses (AMU’s) which are in place to reduce the weather effect of a winter de-icing business will also be discussed.
Gordon Dunn began working for the National Coal Board as a student apprentice in the Nottinghamshire area where he worked his way up from Assistant Under-Manager to Mine Manager at Prince of Wales leading up to its closure. Upon leaving the mining industry, Gordon went on to work for Linde Gas where he managed the production of Industrial and Medical gases. In 2007 he joined Compass Minerals at Winsford Salt Mine as Production Manager and is now the Managing Director of Compass Minerals UK.
