I've added a few more places on the event page. If anyone misses out, we can always arrange another trip in the summer.

The fenced-off New Mill Shaft is in amongst them no more than 50m from the road.

The shaft is well lined with stone blocks, see photo, at least in the top part, but some of the stone has collapsed and now lies in the Long Tunnel directly below here, and is responsible for all the deep water there. Abseiling the shaft is neither practical nor advisable. There are no surface rope belay points, other than trees, there would be a serious rubbing point on the lip and no obvious way to avoid this. The lining of the shaft must be untrustworthy since some of the lower part has fallen out already.

Not a huge problem surely?

I can't recall any major problems with the shaft from when we visited about five years back?

Any specific meeting place for this? Abergynolwyn is a little small if I recall correctly there is a pub at the crossroads with a small carpark. Or are we meeting in the quarry (up the steep single track).

Cheers

Of course, but you turn left at the village centre/crossroads coming from Tall y Llyn, past the community centre. Up the very steep hill. Through the gate. Admire the view. Carry on. Right at the fork. Admire the view again. Down then over the bridge, up the forest track. First left, back on yourself. upish then down. Park by the visitors board and try not to fall into the deep adit shaft pictured a few notes back. The stock fence has had better days πŸ™‚
