A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: 2013 Photography Trip, Wrysgan Slate Mine, Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Date & time: 20/07/2013 at 10:00

Details: There have been a few requests for a Photography-based trip in the North Wales area as we haven't done one for a couple of years, and we have chosen Wrysgan slate mine this time around.
Wrysgan is a great mine for exploration and particularly for photography. If you want to perfect your technique in photographing large chambers then this is the trip for you!
It is an easy walk in, there is no SRT involved, it is mostly dry which means we can concentrate on photography without too many distractions, and it is certainly big enough for a few groups to wander around without stumbling into each other's photos.
We would particularly like to see some folks like me whose photography skills need a little practice and improvement and I will be gently picking the brains of some of the more experienced snappers!
There are plenty of surface features to see too so all in all it should be a great day out.
Any non-photographers who know the mine well would also be more than welcome....a couple of guides are always handy!

Are we meeting at the Cwmorthin car park? Will be great to meet all of you at last! If anyone is up for it then some scaled shots of some big chambers could be fun 😉

I have an idea I've been wanting to try with that there. Bring all the torches.

Cwm car park, yes, 1000 or Lakeside Café 0900 for a rather wonderful breakfast ( ), although if anyone from away (fjällvandring/mudbeast/imayroam etc) is in the Bangor / Llanberis area Friday night maybe meet up for half a shandy? PM me?

Nope, but that's only because I have none. I *may* be able to get a single shot showing the size of the place without, but who knows. A lot depends on "volunteers" and if they are sensible. If they are, I'll have to stitch it.

No problems with shadowing me, but I'm still deciding if I which lens/lenses I should take.

Wherever I may Roam and myself are experts at lightpainting and will be pleased to show you all how to light up a cavern without needing a portable power station. Some home made gear that you can't buy in the shops!
We are staying at Llechrwd Riverside Campsite, anyone else nearby?

Thought to try some photos of these chambers since last summer and have daydreamed a fair bit about where to place lights etc 😛, I managed to get an OK photo using exposure stacking software.
I don't have a wide angle lens, I have a Sony RX100 which should do alright though. No bulbs but ive some magnesium ribbon if that helps?

My Swedish friend has no flash bulbs or anything but did a good job of lighting a huge iron mine chamber with just a headlamp, though he did have to wonder around in darkness to avoid showing up and the exposure was around ten minutes...

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
