A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: A day trip

Date & time: 07/02/2010 at 09:30

Details: This isn't intended to be too strenuous, plenty of opportunity for photography, suitable for all abilities who have some previous experience underground, non SRT.
Everyone welcome, particuarly those who know their way round Cwmorthin better than me, this'll make for a more interesting trip.
I expect to finish mid afternoon.

Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

A quick bump for this, I've also edited the thread title a little bit :flowers:

I'd try and make it, but I'm not arriving back in the UK until midnight the night before, so I may well be asleep! 😞

If you're looking for interesting things to see, slightly off the beaten track, the Old Vein Incline provides a decent opportunity, especially for the once-"floating" bridges.

Getting down the OVI isn't impossible, but there's a bit where you divert off the incline and have to continue down via a hole in the floor - fear not, because it does become apparent!

There is also a set of stairs in the chamber to the west of the incline, between floors A and B, which are slightly easier than the incline.

Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Thanks for that, originally I'd managed to miss Cwmorthin from the title too, can't have been a good evening.

How did it go, folks?

SimonRL and I were somewhat delayed by a diversion to the wrong airport care of EasyJet and didn't get home until 3.15 on Sunday morning, otherwise we might have joined you 😠

Had a great time, five of us in total. Quite good to wander around somewhere you don't know very well, you explore a lot more as you go rather than having anything, managed to turn it into a round trip except for the entrance. Quick summery, entered at the lake adit, down the incline to the wedged truck, headed south east until a bridge, back one chamber and down a steep roped slide into a part back filled chamber, crossed to the bridge chamber via a break through and down to waggon way, carried on south east, found some mineral curtains forming, wonderful if gruesome colouring and som clear spiky crystal formations and the end of a short trial. carried on to a chamber with a waterpump in it, discovered a tunnel at the back which breaks through to Oakley somewhere between the fall and your no entry signs, may have a had a bit of a look round, oops! had lunch at the compressor room, illumination is a nice addition. Dropped down the steps and visited the waterfall to the north west, back again, up the compressor chamber and back to the lake adit.

Most impressed with my new torch, 100W quartz halogen!

Good experiance, it's amazing how much more you concentrate without a good guide, learnt lots and can't wait to get back.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
