Stolen by the scrap men.
They also wrecked the winder in the building next to it.Stupid bastards even stole the sheet steel lid off the manway in the shaft, leaving a 200 foot drop exposed.

At least the No.2 is still standing, barely. There was talk of it being taken down or preserved and put elsewhere, but that was meant to have happened by the end of 2006 so i guess nothing happening to it just yet

Grove Rake Mine (Flourspar)
Rookhope
County Durham, (near Durham, Cumbria , Northumberland borders)

The owners Sherburn Stone would like to leave the headgear as a monument to mining in the Peninnes, part of planning consent for the mine originally was that the mine site was returned to natural when operations ceased.
A little ludicrous if you have ever seen the Rookhope valley, the whole valley is simply mining remains, grouse and sheep

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
