Has any body have any information on Fistral Mine, also known as Newquay Consols and North Wheal Providence situated on the golf links at the back of Fistral beach, Newquay.
One interesting thing was that there was a wooden engine house there.

They bulldozed a fair amount of the tips into the shafts. Shafts filled not capped. I think the adit is somewhere on the south of the beach, I think it may be blocked up.

I've got some info on it somewhere.

The mine was at work in the late 1820's, it then closed owing to the low price of lead. It was reopened by Trefry of Place and on his instruction new machinery was installed by W West & Capt' Puckey of Fowey Consols', this was in in 1847. The mine was worked from two shafts Underlay and Engine.
On the death of Trefry ( who died without a will ) the mine was put up for sale, the machinery included a 50" pumping engine.
It was taken over as a going concern and was still at work in 1863.

Thanks Stuey and Spitfire for the info so far. It is said that the some of the bunkers there never fill up with water, so they are probably sitting on top of filled shafts.

I forgot to state in my last post that the deepest level was 53 fathoms.
