I was sent these photos of a pocket watch engraved with Murton Colliery:

The watch belonged to a Tom Flynn, who emigrated to Canada (the engraved name is somebody else). The watch now belongs to Tom Flynn's grandson who wondered if it might have been a company memento / retirement gift etc.

Simon, it might help to know when he retired. I used to repair watches (as a hobby) in a previous life & that looks very like an "English Lever" probably dating 1850-1900, although not an expert on dates.
It might have been a bit mean to give a watch that wasn't new...
