I might find this very useful. I recently came across some graphs showing the link between rainfall and water levels in Tresavean mine. As you know the Cornish mines were very wet for various reasons. In 1909 Basset Utd was pumping 3 million gallons a day!
Anyway the graphs were blueprints and also the writing was miniscule. Getting a decent image from a blueprint was a bit of a nightmare. Anyone else had a problem with blueprints or, as is more likely, is it my lack of expertise? 🙂

I tend to scan documents these days - even if it means many gradual movements through the scanner, and some fun stitching back together again afterwards. I have copied blueprints in the past using both colour slide and monochrome negative film with some success. If the detail you need to capture is small, and scanning not possible, then I suggest you invest in a camera stand which will take your camera and hold it steady while you take a number of (relatively) closeup shots - again you can stitch them together afterwards if necessary. If you look for copying stands they are available for a variiety of prices - I picked up a cheap folding one on ebay for (if I remember rightly) about £20.

Hope this helps

Thanks everything is useful. Scanning wasn't an option as the docs were in the CRO. Mention scanning or photocopying and they reach for the cyanide capsules. I did use decent camera, Nikon D80, but the docs themselves weren't in good condition.
