So whats really different from rope walking ? which is quick and easy or I am missing something !

Under the tag of this topic, perhaps I should write, cages or lifts, winches, someone pulling you up or in big modern mines with declines sitting in a nice comfy car seat !
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

It's interesting and something I've given a fair bit of thought to. So, you have your standard frogging SRT rig and you add a foot ascender, this allows you to step, but the problem is that you are leaning back too much to use your hand ascender. So, you add a knee ascender and get rid of the hand ascender, this is better, but you still have to "walk" with your hands, so it's like rope crawling.

Back in the day, people used chest rollers which were attached to a "bra" and then you use a foot and knee ascender to ropewalk.

This is how I understand it.

Sadly, the book assumes you are not lazy and have access to sailmaking equipment, webbing and a machine shop.

I'd like a bra with a roller. Thinking about it, they are definately the way to go.

With the standard chest croll and knee/foot ascenders, you waste a lot of energy walking up the rope with your hands....in theory, you should be able to relax and let the pulley do it's job.

His kit lets you use a full step for both stages, that's where it's faster. Apart from only being able to use a full step on every other stage the general set up isn't that different to what I use, I use a chest ascender with a foot strop and a hand ascender above this with another foot strop hung from that , sometimes I use one foot in each (best for stability against a wall) (always my right as this is stronger in the hand ascender strop therfore the one I use to lift my weight) or both feet in the strop of the hand ascender which is less effort, I guess I travel at about half that demonstrated in the video (If I'm not knackered that is). I can "step" round or past obstructions just as easily as he can.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

I learnt to ropewalk with a roller box instead of a chest jammer, hand jammer above your head and one on your foot. Was quick and prevent you from completely detaching from the rope.

When I got my own kit, I replaced the roller box with a chest jammer. So I had a foot jammer on left foot and long loop from my hand jammer. This system allowed me to take full steps with both feet.

It was prooved to be quicker and less tiring than traditional frog system on a number of occassions in deep shafts in Cornwall. I did manage 90feet in 67seconds once, when a couple of us were racing to get out. ! Although a Mr Warriner in Derbys didn't ropewalk more roperun up Shale Shaft on Old Millclose.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

If you still have your roller box, I would grovel with money for it.

(at the right price of course)

If you don't mind dealing with colonials (Americans at that) PMI do a very tasty looking chest box (either single or twin roller) and the associated bra harness. Inner Mountain Outfitters stock them as well as all manner of other interesting vertical swag.

Stuey - did you manage to lay your hands on a chest roller? If you did how are you getting on with it?

No, I didn't but I am triple hellbent on getting one!

I've tried various hybrid methods which are tiring because you have to use your arms. This is no good. I was yapping to Hugh about his original developments and we came to a conclusion that a high up chest roller is the way to go.

I used the knee ascender/foot ascender combo at Latchley for a trial and got "a way up" and realised that I hadn't connected my croll. Hence if I had let go, I would have been hanging upside down on the only rope with my chum below me!
