I am finding that I am using a lot of gear at these days and yet again I am going to have to spend more funds on Maillons and Hangers. Does anyone have access to any good deals, trade prices or discounts for bulk orders ?

Thanks Nimrod!

Up and Under have the Fixe ones at £1.61?

http://www.upandunder.co.uk/eshop/catalogue/testbs.asp?Manufacturer_ID=269&Activity_ID=8&Description_ID=116

They are, however, damn near impossible to find on their website...

I can only suspect that you wish to go bolting using a less manly size of bolt than we use around these parts...

Good comeback! 😉

I suspect that if you could find a decent supply of 12mm bolts, you should be able to put together a 12mm version for something not dissimilar to the 10mm set-up, albeit that thios will be heavier to carry to site, require more drill capacity and runs the very slight risk of causing more damage to the surrounding rock.

Try these folks for the relevant bolts: http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/products.php?cat=Through%20Bolts%20Steel  - M12 x 120mm seems to be the puppy.

Excluding carriage you're looking at £3.52 per bolt/hanger assembly, which is a damn sight better than the £7 or £8 that Petzl ones will set you back.

There will, no doubt be cries that the bolts aren't PPE-rated, but then neither are the maillons you're using 😉

B******s to PPE, I live in the real world :glare:

Aye... the problem is I have always used M10 bolts and so all of my hangers are M10 to match. To start using M12 for the sake of saving a few quid on hangers is not really an option. It would have been nice to use Fixe non-Petzl in M10 though.

http://www.inglesport.com/shop/catalog.php?page=2&category=Bolts%20%26%20Bolting%20Gear

8mm bolts for £1.50 there, or £2.00 for 10mm.

Is that any use or have I totally misunderstood things ;)

As Mr V points out though; much cheaper bolts can be found...

Aren't P hangers and resin a cheaper option? They are replacing the bolt system in many places

P Bolts (or hangers) are no longer made I afraid. IIRC they were made by DMM in Llanberris - the last stock was bought up by the BCA or what ever they were called at the time. They are currently researching a replacment (I think it's also called "re-inventing the wheel" 🙂 )

Was that the DMM 'Eco Anchor'? I used to work at DMM a good number of years ago and remember it well, hadn't realised they'd stopped making it.

So what are climbers bolting sea cliffs with these days? Where bolting sea cliffs is acceptable of course 😉
