Do you guys on here know anything about this place near Keswick as that sump looks very inviting

Found reference to it in "Goldscope & The Mines of the Derwent Fells" Ian Tyler 2005 , pages 237 - 240.
He refers to it as "The Rachel Wood Crosscut". He mentions that sump & refers to it as "The main shaft". Reading a bit between the lines, it appears to be 10 fms. below adit, but the text is rather ambiguous.
Gating was done by Forestry Commission.

There's a photo on p220 that confirms it as "Engine Shaft" 200yrd's inbye of portal. There's also a mine section on p218 that shows it as "Engine Shaft May 1905, 10fms".

I remember meeting a chap from the Forestry Commission at the mine portal back in the 1980’s. Discussions were taking place into reopening the mine as a ‘tourist mine’ (by whom I’m not sure). The project obviously didn’t take off as I never heard any more although I seem to remember it made a few lines in the local press at the time (Keswick Reminder & Lake District Herald). I also remember the main portal being quite a substantial concrete affair, unlike anything I’d seen elsewhere locally. The flooded shaft some distance in was quite a sight too.
