I recently added the above mine to the data base. Historically this was one of the most important mines ever. A very good site, with photos, is:

I wonder whether it would be a good idea to put links such as this with the mine data?

Nice Link.... well found.... often wondered what the mines were like in Greece having done some work there but never found any mines on my travels.

I think I found some on hols in a cliff above Spinalonga in Crete.... certainly not natural and from the strata/geology I would have said for Pb/Ag again....

Shame there seems to be no general regional high level maps of european mineralised/worked zones... or is there?? probably are maps but finding them is something else?

😉

I believe Spinalonga had the last known leper colony and the lepers used to live in caves........

Years ago when in southern Crete I came across a number of holes in a cliff. The locals told me the history but I'm afraid the sands of time have taken their toll.

No must have missed that. Your right Crete is a great place but unfortunately it's been a few years since my last vist. A friend of mine is going out for a month or so shortly as she has a friend who bought a place somewhere up the mountains in the west. Lucky so and so.
